12 Month Update

I can't believe this is the last of my monthly updates! I will miss writing these. It is so fun to look back over the past month and remember all that Kymri has learned and how much she has grown in such a short amount of time. This month was probably the fastest of all thus far. I know it's only going to go faster, so I'm trying to just enjoy every moment while I have it.

Dear Kymri,

Wow! 12 whole months have passed. You are one year old! I just can't believe it. I'm not sure where the year has gone, but we sure have had a lot of fun!

This last month has been full of learning and growth for you! You are especially talkative. You can say Ma-Ma, Da-Da, Hi, Bye, Book, and "Co-Co" (referring to a song you like about coconuts). When you aren't saying one of those things, you are babbling other things all day long. We have little conversations, and we are beginning to understand each other. You can communicate what you want really well, and for the most part, I am understanding. That's super exciting to me! If you aren't able to say what you are wanting, you are good at pointing to things or going over to the things you want.

You are an eating champion. You love to eat and are especially interested in all the carbs (you are your mother's daughter on that one). You also love all fruits and cheese. It's a little harder to convince you to eat vegetables, but you do love squash and sweet potatoes. We can hide spinach in your green smoothies, and I can sometimes convince you to eat peas. The trouble we are facing now is that you refuse to eat anything that you can't feed yourself, but you aren't quite coordinated enough to feed yourself with a spoon yet. You sure do try though! I basically end up mopping the floor every day!

You've started to drink milk and you really like it. We still nurse a couple times a day, but we will probably be done soon. It's weird to see that time coming to an end.

You are starting to understand what certain things are for. You can brush your own hair and try to brush your own teeth. It's cute to watch you figuring things out and doing things on your own.

Walking is coming along. You can take about 5 steps now, and I am sure you will get the hang of it soon. The trouble is that you get going to fast and then tumble over. You really like to move quickly! You have a little walker to help you learn, and you definitely have the hang of that. You love to be in it because it makes you feel big.

You can blow kisses and give kisses on the cheek and you have become quite the loving little girl! You love to blow kisses to mommy and daddy and give us slobbery kisses. You even like kissing yourself in the mirror!

You are becoming a little girly. You love to wear dresses and bows and necklaces. It's cute to watch you go over to your box of headbands and try to put them on. The other day, I came in and you had 3 different bows on! Daddy said that you just couldn't decide!

You are learning to share and take turns. You love to hand us things and then reach to get them back. We like to play games where we pass a toy back and forth.

We go to your 12 month well visit tomorrow, but from our bathroom scale, it looks like you weight between 22.5 and 23 pounds and you are about 29 inches long. We will know for sure tomorrow. You have definitely grown during this past year!

We had family in town for your birthday party, and it was so much fun to be all together. We had a Minnie Mouse themed birthday party that was a blast. We had lots of yummy food and played with giant bubbles. You were adorable as usual and had such a fun time. We celebrated a week early since family was in town.

On your actual birthday, we let you have your first taste of cake, and you absolutely loved it! You were especially interested in eating the frosting!

After eating your cake, we took you to the Bean natural history museum so that you could see the animals. We had planned to go to the zoo, but it was way too cold. You still had a great time! You loved seeing the animals and it was fun to spend the day together as a family.

You keep learning and growing every day. I am having so much fun being at home with you and playing with you. Thank you for loving me and daddy and for making our lives even brighter!

All my love,

Kymri's Birthday Party

We had Kymri's birthday party a week early since it was spring break in AZ and my family was up visiting. We wanted to keep things pretty simple, but have a fun time. We went with a Minnie Mouse theme, and it turned out so cute! Kymri had a great time, and I am so glad that we had this little party to celebrate her. We mostly invited family, but we invited a couple of our friends, and I think that everyone had a good time!

We kept the food pretty simple, eating some of Kymri's favorite things. She looooves chicken, so we had BBQ chicken sandwiches. Fruit is her absolute favorite, so we did a little fruit tray. And cake pops just felt right. haha.

I made Kymri a little Minnie Mouse Outfit complete with matching headband and necklace. I personally think she looked adorable!

And thanks to my friend, Kylie, we learned about Big Bubble Bliss giant bubbles, which were a huge hit for both kids and adults! We seriously had so much fun with them, and played for over a half an hour, and still have half of the solution left. So awesome!

Kymri was totally mesmerized by the bubbles! I am so glad that we had them!

And everyone enjoyed trying them!

Even Grammy had a blast giving it a go!

I was enjoying myself so much that I didn't get pictures of everything, but we had a lot of fun! We had a coloring station, a cookie decorating table, pin the bow on Minnie, and a couple little games. Kymri had a blast and it was so fun to watch her enjoy herself.

Happy birthday, little one!
Only one more birthday post coming... promise!

Cake Smash

I am still in denial that my baby is one year old! We had so much fun celebrating her first year, and strung the festivities out over a week (since my family was in town for Spring Break). I can't wait to share about the party and other activities, but for today, I will just share the cake smash! It was so much fun and Kymri l-o-v-e-d it!

I'm all about simple, but fun.
This is just a roll of white fadeless paper from Joann's, an easy little banner that I cut out of scrapbook paper, and a cake stand that I made by painting a vase (which I then turned upside down), and a tray from the dollar store and then gluing them together. Seriously took about 5 minutes.
We added a few balloons later.
And clearly, I am not a cake decorator, but it was still fun to try my hand at something new.

Couple of pictures in her Minnie Mouse birthday outfit before the cake came out.

She wasn't so sure about the tutu. You'll notice that her arms are up and away from it in pretty much every picture... sorry baby girl! Find the tutorial on how to make this No-Sew Tutu HERE.

First taste of frosting.

I LOVE this picture. Kymri super loves her daddy!

"Come on, Mom! I'm trying to eat cake here!"

As much as we tried to get her to eat the cake, she just wanted more frosting!

It was so fun to watch Kymri go after her little cake! While I can't believe how fast this year flew by, I am actually really looking forward to this coming year and all of the fun things that are in store with our little toddler!

Because Everyone Loves Comparison Pictures

Putting this collage together was fun and emotional all at the same time. I enjoyed remembering each month of Kymri's life and then things she was able to do at the time that each of these was taken. I love to see how much she has grown and changed over the course of the last year.

One thing has stayed the same through it all: Kymri has always been the happiest baby! She is so passionate about everything she does and she always has a smile on her face. Watching her grow up has been an absolute joy!

When Kymri was first born, I was absolutely in love from the first moment. She was perfect.

At one month, I felt like I was finally getting used to having a baby around and the changes that she brought.

At two months, she had me wrapped around her little finger even more since she was smiling and cooing all the time.

At three months, I felt like we were finally starting to establish a little bit of a routine.

At four months, I was about to say goodbye to my family after a perfect summer in Arizona, and was wondering if I could ever do it on my own.

At five months, I was starting to feel a little like a zombie. Kymri was still waking up four of five times a night and I was not functioning all that well. We had to do some modified sleep training. And it was a game changer. I felt like a good mom again.

At six months, I was shocked to realize that half a year had gone by. Somehow my baby was growing up!

At seven months, I started to see an extremely independent little girl emerging. She wanted to do and try everything on her own. She was sitting up like a pro and on the brink of crawling. Where was my baby going?

At eight months, I was loving how interactive Kymri was becoming. It was almost like we could have little conversations. My heart melted when she could start saying Da Da and then Ma Ma.

At nine months, I watched in wonder and Kymri experienced her first Christmas. It was magical. Seeing her enjoy the colors, lights, tastes, and sounds made Christmas new and exciting.

At ten months, I started almost morning the loss of my baby. I saw a toddler more than I saw a baby.

At eleven months, I was in total denial. I wasn't going to lose my baby. Night time cuddles grew longer and I caught myself just watching her sleep on a number of occasions.

And now, at twelve months, I have embraced all that has happened in the last year. I can look back on each moment and memory with fondness while still looking to the future with excitement. Kymri is on the brink of walking, can say 5 different words, is eating up a storm, and even more independent than before. And I love every bit of it.

This last year has been the greatest year of our lives so far. We love our little girl!
