Couples Getaway Box

Brad and I are always looking for new and unique date ideas. It's always so much fun to try new things and switch things up a little. We're also big fans of little trips with just the two of us. With life as busy as it has been recently, both of those things have been a little more difficult than usual. It's tricky to plan new dates when time is limited, and it's most definitely hard to get away with a little one at home, another on the way, a new home to get in order, a new job with long hours, and the usual daily grind. That's why I was so excited about the idea of the Couples Getaway Box!
(I received a free box in return for my honest review. As always, all opinions are my own).
\
The Couple's Getaway Box is such a versatile subscription box! It is meant to either inspire an actual couple's getaway or create a great getaway inspired stay-at-home date night. Since jetting off to Florida was definitely not an option right now, we went for the latter and had one awesome stay-at-home date!

To start our date, we broke out the Conversation Starter cards that were included in the box. These were probably our favorite part of the box! It was as though we were actually on a road trip, talking about all sorts of things that we wouldn't usually talk about. I am a big fan of conversation starters, since they open up a whole world on topics that you just don't usually talk about. I think these were my favorite part of the box, because they got us away from talking about paint colors, health insurance, bills to pay, and appointments to keep. They helped us have an at-home getaway of sorts.

After our little "road trip," we enjoyed reading about each of the items featured in the box so that we could learn about different places we might have visited had we actually made the trip. This was even more fun than I would have guessed! It was like a virtual vacation! This box was centered on Key West, Florida and included a few great treats from the area. It was as though we had actually taken a trip and come back with some fun souvenirs. It was a blast to snack on the yummy key lime cookies and guava jam. And the bath bomb was one of the best smelling bombs I've ever had. Seriously so relaxing!

Overall, this made for one really fun date! It was a blast to do something different, pretend like we were having a romantic getaway, and forget about the day-to-day stresses in a way that only a vacation can. If you're interested in trying our own Couples Getaway Box, you can sign up HERE to receive bi-monthly boxes. Whether you are going to take an actual trip, or just need to shake up your usual date night routine, this is a great option for all couples!

If you are a member of My Wife Tribe (my Facebook group), make sure to watch tomorrow for a Giveaway for a chance to win a FREE Couples Getaway Box.

Date Box Swap Reveal and Link Up

I seriously can't believe that we are more than halfway through August! Things have been quiet around here since we bought our first home and have been working to get it organized and such before Brad goes back to work. But I just had to jump in and tell you about the amazing experience I had with the Date Box Swap! This was seriously such a fun box swap and one that I will definitely be organizing again!

If you didn't catch the original post, the Date Box Swap was a chance for ladies to be paired up with a fellow wifey pen pal, get to know each other over the course of a couple of months, and then send each other a date in the mail. And I have to tell you, I had an absolutely BLAST!

I was able to have two amazing wifey partners. I think that the most fun part of the entire thing was being able to get to know them and plan a date that I thought they would really enjoy. But truth be told, it was also so much fun wondering what they would send and then getting those fun packages in the mail! Opening a date night that was specifically planned for you is definitely fun!

One of my partners, Lindsay, sent such a fun date for new home owners! I had told her that we were just moved in to our new house and kind of overwhelmed with how much more space we had to fill compared to our last place. She sent the most amazing smelling candle as well as a gift card for us to go on a date shopping for home decor. What a fun date idea! We've had such much fun browsing Pinterest and coming up with plans for how to fill our space. That is going to be one amazing date!

My other partner, Kenzi from The HatMaker's Suitcase put so much effort into one of the most fun dates we have been on! She knew that we would be moving back home and have access to babysitters again, so she sent us on a mystery date! He box included 4 sealed envelopes and two sealed gifts along with instructions for how to proceed with the date. It was such a blast! We did this date last weekend and had such a good time opening each envelope and seeing where we would go next. We were supposed to start out at the library, but it was unfortunately closed by the time we got started. So instead we improvised a little and did that step from home. From there, Kenzi sent us to a romantic location with a romantic task, dinner at P.F. Chang's (it's like she read Brad's mind... he's been craving that for ages), and then to dessert. The most fun was revealing the next location and having everything be a total mystery! Seriously so fun!

I was so grateful to both of my partners for sending me the most amazing dates. I loved this swap, because it totally helped get us out of a Date Night rut and doing things that we wouldn't have thought of ourselves.

I can't wait to see what all of you received in your Date Boxes! So it's time to link up any blog posts about the swap below! If you don't blog, make sure to post pictures of your box on social media using #DateBoxSwap so that we can see all of your goodies!

I will most definitely be organizing another swap! I will be posting sign ups in October for a November-December swap, so make sure to check back here to get signed up. You can also sign up for my newsletter HERE to make sure you don't miss the sign ups!

Fiiz Date Night

We are officially moved to Arizona, and I could not be more excited! It has been a little crazy, and I feel that I won't get through all of these boxes for at least three weeks... but it feels so good to be home. And so exciting to be home owners!

With all of the craziness of the move, it was so important for us to take some time away from the crazy and make date night a priority. With everything that was going on, it was difficult to do anything that took too much time. So we wanted to plan some dates that were fun, helped us reconnect, but that could be done in the limited time that we had. Even when schedules are crazy, we just need that time to reconnect.

So we planned a super fun group date at a local soda shop, Fiiz Las Vegas. It was seriously just what we needed! We were able to get out with friends, do something super fun, and have some amazing drinks and cookies. Thank you to Fiiz Las Vegas for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.

Fiiz specialty sodas

If you haven't ever been to Fiiz, you are missing out. Fiiz makes specialty sodas in literally every flavor you could imagine. Since it was date night, I went with one of the Sodas on their secret menu called "Sassy Love Potion." It is a Sprite base with passion fruit, lime, and strawberry. It was seriously incredible!

Fiiz has every soda you can imagine and flavor shots to make hundreds of combinations. You are sure to find something that you will love. They have everything from these specialty sodas to Italian Sodas to Harry Potter inspired butterbeer and frozen hot chocolate. They have seriously thought of everything.

Grabbing drinks definitely makes for the perfect quick date night on those weeks when you are really pushed for time. You may not have time to sit down to an entire meal, but grabbing drinks is a quick alternative and still gives you some quality time together.

Fiiz Las Vegas

Since we had a little extra time, we made this a group date! It was so fun to get together with friends and see all of the different drinks they tried. And can we please talk about the amazing cookies for just a minute? You NEED to try one of their red velvet cookies. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that it was one of the best cookies that I have ever had, and the group would agree with me.

While you're hanging out at Fiiz, they have tons of fun games that you can play. Or you can bring your own! We played the Dating Diva's "Not So Newlywed Game" and had a total blast! This game is perfect for couples who have been married for awhile or not long at all. You take turns asking husbands and wives different questions about their relationships and seeing if their answers match up! And the super cute printables from the Divas are totally free! So make sure to check them out HERE. Questions range from things like "what was the date that you got engaged?" to "who has the worst morning breath?" The questions are a fun way to get to know other couples as well, so this game makes for the perfect group date! I think we will be hosting another date night soon with another version of this game.

It was seriously such a fun night! If you are in Las Vegas, Arizona, or Utah,  make sure to find a Fiiz location and try one of their amazing sodas. You will definitely be back time and again because there are SO many to choose from!

Have you been to Fiiz before? Which drink did you try?

To My Firstborn: A Letter to my Daughter as you Become a Big Sister

Dearest Little One,

It seems like just yesterday that we welcomed you into the world. And yet, somehow, more than two years have passed by and you are growing up so fast. You are everything I had hoped you would be and more. You are a joy and a light in our home. And now, you are about to become a big sister.

I have so many thoughts and things to say to you. You made me a mother. You have taught me so many lessons. You are infinitely patient with me. You see my best, even when I'm at my worst. And as excited as I am for the arrival of your little sister, I have found myself almost mourning this time of my life. Things are going to change. And I worry that I will miss this time. And then I feel guilty for those feelings. I don't know if what I'm feeling is normal, but I will miss so many things about our life right now.

I will miss the way we can sit for an hour at a time reading your favorite books. I'm afraid that you will cry and not understand when I have to go tend to your sister after just a book or two. I will miss the way we sit, with your arm wrapped around mine. I will miss being able to say 'yes' every time you ask for 'just one more' and we end up reading for another half hour.

I will miss the way you run up to me, grab my face between your hands, and say "Mommy and Kymri, best friends forever!" Because you will have a new little bestie. And I know I will be so glad, but for now I am just a little sad.

I worry about disappointing you. Right now, I can almost always say yes. Yes, we can sit and play with your princess castle. Yes, we can do a craft right this moment. Yes, we can get all the paints out. But in three more months, I know that I will have to say 'not right now' sometimes. I'll have to wait until after I nurse the baby. After I get her down for a nap. After bath. After this diaper change. And I worry that you won't understand. That you will be so sad that I'm no longer at your beck and call. And I worry that I won't give you the attention you need.

I will miss the uninterrupted time that we get to spend together. I will miss the one-on-one time. I will miss being able to give you my undivided attention.

But they say that somehow with each child, my heart will expand. I will have room enough for both of you. I will have love enough for both of you. Life is going to change, but deep down I know that it is only going to get even better. Even more beautiful. Even more full.

I can't promise that it won't be a difficult transition for you. But I can promise that I will still be there for you. I will still love you with my whole heart. I will still give you all that I can. I might have to say 'not right now,' but I promise that we will get to it. I will still spend time with you. You aren't being replaced. We are just getting another best friend!

And I know that you are going to be the most amazing big sister. Because when I find myself worrying about these things, you do something to help me realize that everything is going to be alright. You will kiss my belly and say "I love you, baby!" You will ask me when your new baby can come out to play. You will tell me how excited you are for your new baby to get here. You will take out your dolls and practice rocking your baby. And I know that we are going to be more than okay.

So for the next three months, let's read all your books. Let's lay on a blanket in the yard for as long as you want. Let's have a tea party and invite all of your stuffed animals.

But remember that there is even more fun to be had. And in three months, we will surely wonder how we ever got along without our new precious baby.

I love you my little one,
Mommy

Stay At Home Date Night: DIY Couple's Massage

Do you ever feel like you'll never quite catch up with your ever growing to-do list? As our moving day looms closer and closer, I feel like I keep thinking of more and more things that need to get done. I need to clean the house top to bottom so that we make sure to get our cleaning deposit back, I need to verify that all of our utilities will be turned off in Nevada on the right date and turned on in Arizona on the right date, I need to look at more carpet samples and try to make a decision on which one we like, I need to confirm times with the moving company... You get the idea. And Brad's to-do list is much longer than my own. On top of all of his moving tasks, he's still working full time and wrapping up all of his last projects. So to say we're busy is an understatement.

We're finding that our time spent together is mostly all business. Who is going to call the lender and make sure that the final documents are ready to go so that our loan goes through? Who is going to check in with the realtor about doing a final walk through via skype? Who is going to pick up the tacos for dinner, because I'm sure not cooking tonight (that last one is only sort-of a joke).

So it's become more difficult to connect in a meaningful way. That's why I'm extra excited to share with you a fast way to reconnect after a busy day that will help you to relax and rejuvenate together. Give each other massages using massage lotions or oils. I received oils in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

Stay at home date night idea couple's massage

Recently, we tried the doTERRA Aromatouch Massage Kit. At first I was a little nervous about so many smells in one massage, but the kit is so well planned and thought out that the different scents in the oils blend really well together. The kit comes with massage techniques, which was great since we didn't really know what we were doing. We enjoyed both the full body massages and the hand massages.

Today, I'll be sharing how to do a full body AromaTouch massage with your spouse. (You can see images for each movement and watch videos on how to do each movement HERE). If you are using doTERRA oils, you will do different oil introductions at various points, so follow the kit instructions. If you are using other oils or lotions, these motions still make for a great massage!

doTERRA AromaTouch Kit DIY Couples Massage

First, perform three clockwise palm circles. You palms will move together in a clockwise circle three times across the hard area of the upper back.

Next, perform the alternating palm slide three times on each side of the back. This motion should be done on the opposite side of where you are standing. Palms should slide from the spine to the side, beginning at the lower back and alternating hands until you reach the crown of the head. Repeat three times, then transition to the opposite side and repeat the process.

Third, you will perform the 5 zone activation. This one is a little tricky to explain, and I definitely recommend watching the video. Basically, you will stand at the crown of the head, reach down to the recipient's tale bone and rub your hands along the spine to the crown of the head. Then you will return your hands to the sacrum, with hands slightly further away from the spine pulling hands up and then along the shoulders. Repeat for all 5 zones (moving hands out further each time).

Auricular stress reduction comes next. Grip each ear lobe between your thumb and forefinger, working your fingers in small circles along the ear to the top. Then, slide your thumb along the back of the ear to return to the lobe. Repeat three times.

Repeat the Alternating Palm Slide and the 5 Zone activation twice.

Perform the thumb walk tissue pull. Your thumbs move along either side of the spine in circular motions from the lower back to the crown of the head. Repeat three times.

Repeat the alternating palm slide, the five zone activation, and the thumb walk tissue pull.

Moving to the feet, perform a regional tissue pull by using your thumbs in a circular motion, and massaging the foot from heel to toe in a zig-zag pattern. Next, on the same foot, perform the pinpoint zone activation.  Basically, you press your thumbs (alternating) from heel to each of the 5 toes. Perform the 5 zone tissue pull on the same foot. To do this, run your thumbs three times from heel to each toe.

Repeat these three steps on the opposite foot.

Perform the alternating palm slide one last time.

Perform 3 clockwise palm circles.

Finish by performing the lymphatic movement. Slightly lift the recipient's legs off the table and rock him back and forth for 15-30 seconds. Repeat three times.

DIY Massage

Let me tell you, this is one amazing massage. We felt much more legit than just rubbing each other's backs. And it was nice to be able to connect physically and emotionally after such a busy and hectic time. We will definitely be adding DIY massages to our list of Stay-At-Home-Date Ideas.

If you are interested in an Aromatouch Kit, make sure to get in contact with Leslie, our Doterra representative. You can find her on Facebook, Instagram, or her Doterra site.

Revive Date Night Link Up

I seriously can't believe that June is basically over! I'm still not totally sure where the month went. It was a fun filled month where we celebrated our anniversary, took a trip to Seattle, and tried to stay out of the 115 plus degree weather! In all, it was a great month and our focus on #ReviveDateNight really helped us to get out of our date night rut! We had some really great dates including our Color Date, eating at the top of the Space Needle in Seattle, seeing Mystere by Cirque du Soleil, making homemade pizzas, and hosting a group date. Now we just need to chug forward and not fall back into old patterns.

I'm especially excited about our Date Box Swap to keep us on a high note when it comes to date night. If you signed up with me, you should be assigned your partner and you've hopefully heard from them and are exchanging emails in preparation for the big swap in August! And if you missed sign ups, don't worry... I'll be hosting another swap for the holidays!

And now, I'm excited to invite you all to link up your own #ReviveDateNight posts! Please share anything and everything that you and your spouse are doing to make Date Night a priority! I can't wait to read all of your posts and get good ideas to keep the love alive through regular date nights!

And make sure to visit Justine and Amberly to see how they #ReviveDateNight

Revive Date Night with a Couple's Getaway

This month has been all about #ReviveDateNight and I have loved sharing and learning together about ways to get out of date night ruts and reconnect with your spouse.

For me, the number one sure fire way to rekindle that spark in marriage and get out of a major rut is to have a little get away, just the two of us. It can be a little stay cation, or a full blown 5 day trip away. The key is that you just need to leave behind all distractions (kiddos included... hard as that can be), and devote some time to just each other.

Last week, we were able to make a trip to Seattle and it was absolutely perfect. It was right around our anniversary, so we made it an anniversary trip. I'll be sharing more specifics of the trip over the next two weeks, but for today I just wanted to share some pictures from the trip along with reasons why I think a couples get away is so important.

The main hesitation I hear about making a little getaway happen is finances. You'd rather spend the money on a family vacation or you feel guilty spending it on yourself. I'm here to tell you that it's worth the investment and it doesn't have to be extravagant (though there's nothing wrong if it is). And I definitely don't think a couple's getaway should replace your family vacation. It's totally possible to prioritize both.

So let's start with the why of why I think it's important to budget this in. At home, we get caught up in the day to day grind of things. Are conversations are mostly centered around who's going to pick up the dry cleaning, what time we need to leave to make it to the work party, how many watermelons I need to buy to the neighborhood service project, etc. Even during date night we'll be guilty of talking "business" more than anything. But if you do something out of the ordinary and get out of that routine, you'll find that other conversations will flow more easily. Goals and dreams. Hopes for the future. Silly and romantic conversations. You'll talk to each other like you did while you were dating.

Now, I'm not saying you should just throw caution to the wind and make a getaway happen if it's not in the budget. Be wise and do what you can. If you can't make a few nights away happen, find a local hotel in your own city.  If that's even too much, pitch a tent in your own back yard. Just do something that will break the routine and let you focus on your spouse again.

And now, for what I think is the even more difficult issue of leaving kids behind. I had SUCH a hard time leaving my little one this time around. I mean, super hard. I actually cried. A few times. And by the end of the trip, Brad and I were both super ready to all be back together again. But I still think it was so good for us to take the time and get away. To make it a little easier on you and the kiddos, here are some tips:
 - Leave some fun things for the kids to do behind when you go.
 - FaceTime with them as much as you want during the day.
 - If you'll be gone multiple days, consider switching things up for them around the half way point. Our little gal stayed with my mom for the first two days and my in laws for the second two days. It helped her a lot to have a change of scenery, new toys, and new cousins to help her not be sad.
 - Send a post card home.
 - Do something extra fun when you get home.
As much as parenting is a full time job and a major responsibility, I believe that nurturing your marriage is just as important. We were able to focus on just the two of us for a few days and rekindle the love we share. And you know what? We were even better parents when we got home.

After our little getaways, Date Nights improve, our conversations improve, and our relationship is even better than before. I'd say that's worth it.

So what do you think? Is a couple's getaway worth it to you?

6.21.13: A Unique Engraved Anniversary Gift

Tomorrow will mark 4 years of marriage for me and Brad. In some ways, it's hard to believe that we've been married that long, but in other ways (good ways), it feels like we have been together forever. And I suppose that in some ways, we have.

Darby Elizabeth Photography

Generally for our anniversaries, we swap the traditional gifts. For the first (paper) anniversary, I made a Love Notes journal that we pass back and forth. The second (cotton), I made a sock bouquet (Brad is obsessed with argyle socks). For the third (leather), I bought a leather journal. I'll be sharing this year's traditional gifts later in the week, but I also wanted to do something a little extra for Brad this year. It's been a bit of a crazy year, and I wanted something meaningful and useful.
A big thanks to Jord for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.

I learned a few months back that Jord Wood Watches is now offering engraving on the backs of their watch faces. And I've been wanting one for Brad ever since. I love how meaningful something as simple as engraving can be. I chose the watch I wanted quickly and without much trouble. I knew that I wanted something in a dark wood and with a round face, so that was no trouble at all. I went with the Hyde in walnut and black and I am absolutely in love.

 http://www.jordwatches.com/#twobestfriendsinlove

 http://www.jordwatches.com/#twobestfriendsinlove

I had a much more difficult time choosing what to have engraved on the back. I knew that I wanted it to reflect our marriage. I considered a few words from our song. I considered something like "love you forever." I even thought of doing something more punny... "love for all time." But eventually, I settled on something very simple. Our wedding date.

 http://www.jordwatches.com/#twobestfriendsinlove

I'm in love with how the engraving turned out. I love that it's a constant reminder for Brad of the day that started it all. To me, our wedding date is a symbol of choosing each other. It's the day we made sacred promises or vows to always love and care for each other. It's the day that we committed to give our whole selves to another person--the person. The day that we said it's forever.

Which is why I'm so pleased with this unique gift for Brad. It says so much while saying so little. It's just what I had hoped it would be. So if you're in the market for a unique gift, make sure to check out Jord Wood Watches. They have amazing selections of both men's watches and women's watches that will be sure to impress. And the option to engrave makes these wood watches an even more special gift.

Brad loves his watch and I was so glad that it was ready to go earlier than I had anticipated! I was able to give it to him on our Seattle getaway, which made for the perfect surprise!

How To Plan a Color Theme Date Night

One of my favorite ways to get out of a date night rut is to have a themed date. Themed dates can be anything you want them to be: choose a letter of the alphabet and plan as many activities as you can that start with that letter, choose a country and make food from that region while listening to traditional music and following with an activity based on the culture, or choose a genre of music and create a date around that theme.

The current theme date I'm planning is a color date! This one definitely stretched me, but when Justine told me that she was planning a color date, I was excited to jump on board. I decided to plan my date around the color blue.

Of course, the date includes blue outfits. I feel like this is just an absolute must.

Next, some blue flowers were practically required. I love blue flowers! Brad bought me some awhile back, and I had never seen anything like them before.

From there, we will be headed to dinner at the Blue Iguana. It's a tasty Mexican Food joint, that we just can't say no to!

If you don't have a conveniently named restaurant near you, you could cook a meal at home and eat on blue plates. Either buy a cheap pack of disposable plates from a party store (seriously, they have every color), or buy nicer plates from the dollar store. If you don't want to buy blue plates, go with a simple blue table cloth!

Dessert was a more difficult decision. I've settled on vanilla Blue Bell Ice Cream topped with fresh Blueberries! But making blue koolaid slushes was also very tempting.

We're very excited about our blue date tonight! Grab yourself some blue shirts and join us!

Revive Date Night with a Date Night Bucket List

You guys, I'm going to be fully honest. We have totally been in a date night rut recently. We've been making it happen, but we don't plan ahead and we often end up doing the same thing over and over... so we needed to make a change.

So for Date Night last week, we sat down and made a Date Night bucket list. It was a little hard at first... I told you, we're in a rut. We had a hard time coming up with some good ideas at first. But once we got some ideas flowing, we were able to come up with a pretty great list. I'm really excited about it too! We typed it up nicely and we're going to print it out and leave it posted on the fridge so that we can refer back to it easily and make sure that we are making the activities happen. This way, even if we haven't planned ahead well, we have some great ideas to choose from!

Here's a sampling of our Bucket List:

  • Make Homemade Ice Cream
  • See a Musical
  • Visit Fountain Hills
  • Go to a You-Pick Orange Grove
  • Take a Gondola Ride
  • Take a Couples Cooking Class
  • Visit a Museum
  • Do an Escape the Room
  • Have a Picnic and Make Kites
  • Host a Murder Mystery Party
  • Rent a Tandem Bike
  • Go On A Hike
  • Ride a Trolley in Old Town Scottsdale
I think making a bucket list was the best thing that we could have done for getting out of our rut. It made us think of different things that we could do rather than takeout and a DVD. Not that there's anything wrong with that every now and again, but let me tell you, it was getting pretty old...

If you want to make your own Date Night Bucket List, here's a cute free printable that you can use!

Date Box Swap

Hello lovelies! I hope you are all enjoying the beginnings of your summers and that you have plans to make all sorts of amazing memories. I wish for all of us that some of those memories include some awesome date nights! And to help with that desire, I'm excited to announce a new box swap that will help get you out of a date night rut, keep your date night mojo going, or just be a whole lot of fun for you and your spouse! Mainly, I think this is a perfect swap for our #ReviveDateNight series, because we will be swapping so many great date night ideas.

Date Box Swap

If you've never before participated in a box swap, let me explain the generals quickly before delving into the specifics of this box swap. You will be assigned a partner to get to know via email over the course of a month. At the end of that month, you will each mail each other a box of goodies. Here are the specifics on how this swap will work. After reading the specifics, if you can commit to participating fully, you can sign up to join the swap using the google form linked to at the end of this post. You do not have to blog to participate in this swap.

For the Date Box Swap, you will:

  • Be assigned a fellow wifey pen pal. You will receive an email from me with your partner's information on or before June 17th
  • Email your partner at least three times during the duration of the swap to get to know her. I recommend once a week or more.
  • Mail your partner a Date Night In A Box valued between $20 and $35 (before shipping) that will arrive on or before August 4th. The sky is the limit on what you might send. Revive Date Night: 5 Tricks to Start Dating Your Spouse Again

When is the last time you and your spouse had a date? And how frequently do you make date night happen? Once a week? Once a month? Can you even remember? And if you are consistent with date night, do you ever feel like you're in a rut of doing the same thing over and over? That's the trouble we seem to have with date night. We're fully committed to making it happen every week, but we can get caught doing the same thing week after week. Usually these ruts consist of Take-Out and Netflix. And every now and again, there is nothing wrong with that. But when we do it week after week, it feels less and less like date night.

So if you're in a date night funk, haven't had a date night in months, or just need to switch things up a little bit, this post is for you! Today I am sharing 5 ideas to get back on the horse and really start dating your spouse again. Basically, these are things that are meant to jump start your dating routine by changing things up a bit.

1. Plan a Double Date.
This month I will be sharing some of our favorite double and group dates. I think that these are one of the best ways to get out of the date night funk. If you invite others and plan ahead, the date night will most definitely happen and you will do something outside of your norm. Chances are, you will also dress up and look your best, which always adds a necessary spark to date night.

2. Ask Your Spouse Out On A Date.
One of the ruts that we sometimes get into is just understanding that date night happens every Friday and not planning very well. So many times it will be Friday morning and one of us will ask "did you have anything planned for date night, or should I figure something out?" And then we will usually end up watching a movie after the little one goes down. While there is nothing wrong with this, it will lead to a date night rut if we do it over and over.

Now think back to before marriage, while you were dating. You would take turns planning out great dates where each of you would have a great time, you could reconnect, and maybe even impress each other a little bit. You would ask the other in advance to make sure they were free. For some dates, you even put a ton of effort into the asking... making a puzzle or game of it. So go back to those days. Take turns and each plan an extra special date. Ask ahead of time in a special way. Make it a bit of a surprise so that you can still give your spouse those gilts of excitement and butterflies.

3. Do Something A Little Crazy.
Doing something completely out of the ordinary will help you to get out of a date night rut. Spend a little more than you might usually, or nothing at all. The cost doesn't matter at all. What matters is that you make is something completely different. Go indoor skydiving. Take a 30 mile bike ride. Hike to a hidden water fall. Do an Escape the Room experience. Try a ropes course. Make a picnic and eat it on the roof. Just do something that will get you excited and create a change.

4. Buy Tickets In Advance.
There is something special about being able to look forward to an event together. For Christmas, we both bought the other tickets to musicals, and looked forward to them for months. Buy tickets to a sporting event, a show, a concert... even just a movie for the next weekend. Just buy them ahead of time so that you can look forward to something together. It also makes date night more exciting when you know you already have something lined up.

5. Create a Date Night Bucket List.
One of the easiest date night ruts to fall into is just simply not knowing what to do. You fall into a routine and do the same thing (read: Netflix) over and over. This seems to be an especial problem when you don't plan ahead and just fall back on your old stand-by. Enter the Date Night Bucket List. Making the list can become a date night on its own. Sit down together and come up with ideas of date activities that you would each like to do. Then when a weekend comes around when you don't have a plan for what to do, you can pull out your bucket list and choose something without any trouble.

I'm especially excited to tell you that I've teamed up with two of my favorite bloggers for a blog series this month all about Reviving Date Night. Justine, from Little Dove, Amberly from A Prioritized Marriage , and I are on a mission to help couples get out of date night ruts and really start to date each other again. Every Friday in June we will be posting ideas on how to revive date night. And make sure to follow along on Instagram where we will {spoiler alert} be hosting an amazing Date Night Giveaway along with even more ideas. We would also love to hear all of your ideas! Make sure to use #ReviveDateNight so that we can learn from each other and really bring back date night this month! Show us how you overcome obstacles like busy schedules, tight finances, kiddos, or anything else to make date night happen!

Baby Number Two

Pregnancy Announcement

Excited doesn't even begin to express how we feel about a second little one joining our family in November. We are really looking forward to meeting this new little person and watching our family grow.

Kymri seems to be super excited, though I'm not certain that she fully understands. She loves telling people that she's going to be a big sister and that Mommy has a baby in her belly, but I can't decide if she really knows what those two things mean. She walks around talking about being a big sister and sometimes she will come up and rub my belly and say "I love your baby, mommy!" It's definitely heart warming and I just love it. I'm hoping that we can prepare her well for when the big day does come. She sure does love having Mommy and Daddy's full attention, so I'm sure that this will take some getting used to, but I have also seen how much she loves seeing babies at church, at the store, etc. so I'm hoping that she will take it in stride and slip easily into her new big sister role. But even if it takes some getting used to, I know this little girl is going to be the best big sister there ever was.

Pregnancy Announcement.

Beat the Heat: Sea Quest Aquarium

Summer has officially arrived in Las Vegas. To be real, it's been here for about a month. But this week it was in the 90s and felt like death. So for any of my fellow Nevadans or Arizonans, I decided that we could all use some tips on how to beat the heat this summer. So I will be posting weekly activities that we're doing to keep us busy and cool all at the same time.

Awhile back, I was happy to accept an invitation to visit the new Sea Quest aquarium that recently opened here in Las Vegas. I was quick to jump at the chance. Sadly, the aquarium was about a 40 minute drive for us, so I won't be able to go back frequently, but I am so glad that I had the chance to experience it! And my little one was in absolute heaven.

Sea Quest Las Vegas

Sea Quest is an interactive aquarium. We were able to hold a lizard (read: we both watched the worker hold the lizard because my daughter totally takes after me and is slightly anti-lizard-holding... but we could have held him if we wanted to). We fed fish and sting rays, which was a huge highlight for my little one. She was so excited that all of the fishies would flock to her when she dumped in her food. And she loved putting her fingers in the water. She wasn't so certain about touching the fish that came by, but she liked the idea of it. Her very favorite thing was going under some of the tanks. She loved looking up and seeing fish swimming above her.

Sea Quest Las Vegas

Sea Quest Aquarium is set up really well. We traveled the world as we went from room to room, from the desert to the rain forest. Each room was like a different spot on the map and we enjoyed learning about the different species from each location. From stingrays to tortoise, sharks to snakes, the variety did not disappoint.

In all, it was a fun outing and with the temperatures now up, something we would definitely do to beat the heat this summer. If you are in Utah, Las Vegas, or Fort Worth, make sure to check out Sea Quest Aquarium this summer. If not, find a local aquarium! Your kids will love it, you will have something to fill an entire day, and you will stay out of this crazy heat. Happy Summer everyone!

May Flowers

I'm not sure about you, but I don't know how it is May already! This year is really flying by. Here in Vegas temperatures will reach the 90s this week, the water parks are open, and the splash pads have been turned on. We're officially in summer mode and it feels pretty good.

To be honest, I'm not too sad to say goodbye to April. It wasn't a bad month, but we definitely felt some "April showers" around here and are looking forward to some more flowery days.

May is going to be one crazy and amazing month. This month we will:

Travel to Arizona for two weddings

Celebrate Mother's Day

Start a more official house hunt (please send me all the patience vibes you can muster)

Start packing up our house (let's be honest... I never really unpacked everything to begin with)

Go to the splash pad practically every other day

Go to weekly gymnastics classes

Start our summer reading program

So it's definitely set up for a month of May flowers. And I have just the dress to kick off the month.

This floral maxi dress from eshakti is just what I was looking for this spring. I wanted something light weight and flowy, easy maintenance, and fun. This dress fit the bill perfectly!

I love that eshakti let's me customize everything about the dress. Ever since having a baby, my body doesn't quite fit into one specific size. So I love that I simply send in my measurements and eshakti does the rest. I also changed the sleeve length on this dress since I wanted them just a bit longer. I love that I could have chosen elbow sleeves or long sleeves as well if I had wanted. These dresses can truly become one of a kind with so many customizable options.

Eshakti also has me hooked on pockets in a dress. I don't know how I survived without them. It's so much more convenient! The pockets are a great size, but so well done that you can't even tell they are there. There is no awkward bulge or extra fabric.

In all, this is my perfect May Flowers dress!

Have you tried eshakti yet?
