Stay At Home Date Night: DIY Couple's Massage

Do you ever feel like you'll never quite catch up with your ever growing to-do list? As our moving day looms closer and closer, I feel like I keep thinking of more and more things that need to get done. I need to clean the house top to bottom so that we make sure to get our cleaning deposit back, I need to verify that all of our utilities will be turned off in Nevada on the right date and turned on in Arizona on the right date, I need to look at more carpet samples and try to make a decision on which one we like, I need to confirm times with the moving company... You get the idea. And Brad's to-do list is much longer than my own. On top of all of his moving tasks, he's still working full time and wrapping up all of his last projects. So to say we're busy is an understatement.

We're finding that our time spent together is mostly all business. Who is going to call the lender and make sure that the final documents are ready to go so that our loan goes through? Who is going to check in with the realtor about doing a final walk through via skype? Who is going to pick up the tacos for dinner, because I'm sure not cooking tonight (that last one is only sort-of a joke).

So it's become more difficult to connect in a meaningful way. That's why I'm extra excited to share with you a fast way to reconnect after a busy day that will help you to relax and rejuvenate together. Give each other massages using massage lotions or oils. I received oils in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

Recently, we tried the doTERRA Aromatouch Massage Kit. At first I was a little nervous about so many smells in one massage, but the kit is so well planned and thought out that the different scents in the oils blend really well together. The kit comes with massage techniques, which was great since we didn't really know what we were doing. We enjoyed both the full body massages and the hand massages.

Today, I'll be sharing how to do a full body AromaTouch massage with your spouse. (You can see images for each movement and watch videos on how to do each movement HERE). If you are using doTERRA oils, you will do different oil introductions at various points, so follow the kit instructions. If you are using other oils or lotions, these motions still make for a great massage!

First, perform three clockwise palm circles. You palms will move together in a clockwise circle three times across the hard area of the upper back.

Next, perform the alternating palm slide three times on each side of the back. This motion should be done on the opposite side of where you are standing. Palms should slide from the spine to the side, beginning at the lower back and alternating hands until you reach the crown of the head. Repeat three times, then transition to the opposite side and repeat the process.

Third, you will perform the 5 zone activation. This one is a little tricky to explain, and I definitely recommend watching the video. Basically, you will stand at the crown of the head, reach down to the recipient's tale bone and rub your hands along the spine to the crown of the head. Then you will return your hands to the sacrum, with hands slightly further away from the spine pulling hands up and then along the shoulders. Repeat for all 5 zones (moving hands out further each time).

Auricular stress reduction comes next. Grip each ear lobe between your thumb and forefinger, working your fingers in small circles along the ear to the top. Then, slide your thumb along the back of the ear to return to the lobe. Repeat three times.

Repeat the Alternating Palm Slide and the 5 Zone activation twice.

Perform the thumb walk tissue pull. Your thumbs move along either side of the spine in circular motions from the lower back to the crown of the head. Repeat three times.

Repeat the alternating palm slide, the five zone activation, and the thumb walk tissue pull.

Moving to the feet, perform a regional tissue pull by using your thumbs in a circular motion, and massaging the foot from heel to toe in a zig-zag pattern. Next, on the same foot, perform the pinpoint zone activation.  Basically, you press your thumbs (alternating) from heel to each of the 5 toes. Perform the 5 zone tissue pull on the same foot. To do this, run your thumbs three times from heel to each toe.

Repeat these three steps on the opposite foot.

Perform the alternating palm slide one last time.

Perform 3 clockwise palm circles.

Finish by performing the lymphatic movement. Slightly lift the recipient's legs off the table and rock him back and forth for 15-30 seconds. Repeat three times.

DIY Massage

Let me tell you, this is one amazing massage. We felt much more legit than just rubbing each other's backs. And it was nice to be able to connect physically and emotionally after such a busy and hectic time. We will definitely be adding DIY massages to our list of Stay-At-Home-Date Ideas.

If you are interested in an Aromatouch Kit, make sure to get in contact with Leslie, our Doterra representative. You can find her on Facebook, Instagram, or her Doterra site.
